Frequently Asked Questions
When does the program start?
The MS program only has one start date at this time, in the fall of each year. The review committee will begin reviewing applications in late February/early March of each year. We begin reviewing applications at the end of January 2025. This will take some time as we already have a substantial number of candidates. As part of this rolling admissions cycle, we will share updates once these reviews are completed in the coming months.
How long does it take to complete the MS program?
The MS program is one year long. Students who attend part-time will typically complete the program in two years. All MS program students must complete their program within three years.
Is the GRE Exam required?
The program does not require GRE scores for your application. GRE scores make no determination on student admission to the program.
Is there a Thesis Track for the MS Program?
MS program does not have a thesis track.
Can you share more about Lab Placement and Research Practicum?
Dr. Bevan Main, the Research Practicum Course Director, assigns students to labs with the aim to provide hands-on neuroscience research experience. This process involves students listing labs of interest within the MS application materials, and once the incoming MS cohort is finalized, students will be matched with labs aligned with their area of interest.
When will the department notify me if I am accepted into the MS program?
As part of a rolling admissions cycle, notification of acceptance into the program could be as early as February and as late as July. A notification delay from the department does not indicate that you won’t accepted in the program. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the time-consuming process.
Does earning the MS degree at Georgetown help students get into Georgetown’s MD or PhD Programs?
While we have had students accepted into Medical School and our PhD program, earning a Master’s degree at Georgetown does not guarantee acceptance into a PhD or MD program.
How do I submit my TOEFL or IELTS scores?
Please review the Graduate School information about TOEFL and IELTS, under the section labeled “Submitting Test Scores”. Please also review the section labeled “English Proficiency: TOEFL/IELTS” for minimum score requirements.
Are there different deadlines for International Students who are selected to enter the MS Program?
International applicants need to reach out to Office of Global Services and International Student & Scholar Services for critical deadlines and mandatory events if they are selected to enter into the program. Checking email frequently is very important to ensure a candidate/student does not miss a required deadline.
